Tulip tree – Liriodendron tulipifera

According to fossil records preserved in stone, the tulip tree grew throughout the world and was native in many parts of Europe, but became extinct there during the last great ice age. It finally appeared again in Europe around the late 1680s, this time as an introduced species. Still growing there today, the tulip tree enriches many parks and gardens. One of the most appreciated imports form America, it is prized for its noble stature, exotic green flowers, and thick covering of odd-shaped leaves.
